- Appointment sessions are 30-45 minutes in length.
- Students are allowed to reserve a maximum of 2 code tutoring appointments and 2 print tutoring appointments per student, per week.
Student Responsibilities
- Students are expected to be on time, prepared and ready to work with their tutor during the appointment session.
- Students are expected to bring their assignment instructions, specific questions, and the work they have done on the assignment. Students should do as much of the assignment as they can before seeing a tutor.
- Students should come for tutoring when they have enough time to use the information from the tutor to make their work better.
- Students are expected to work independently between sessions and make progress on their assignment before returning to see a tutor.
- Please note that tutoring appointments conclude promptly at the end of the scheduled session. If a student requires additional assistance beyond this time frame, the student must schedule a follow-up appointment.
- Tutoring does not take the place of attending class. The tutors are here to answer specific questions after the student has attended class and attempted the assignment. If a student misses class, they must contact their instructor to receive any missed work and instruction.
- Students are expected to follow The CD Attendance Policy and The New School Code of Conduct.
- Students who are disrupting the work of others or misusing the Design Lab / CD Tutoring areas, may be asked to leave.
Tutor Responsibilities
- Tutors are expected to be on time, prepared and ready to work with a student during the appointment session.
- Tutors will not do the work for students, but will discuss patterns of errors and show students how they can correct those errors on their own.
- Tutors will offer constructive feedback and encouragement to students to help complete their assignment or help them develop a design plan.
- Tutors will help students understand their assignment and improve their technical skills (digitally for code tutors or print-based for print tutors).
- Tutors will explain key concepts and show students ways to learn the material on their own. This will help students improve on their assignments when working independently.
